DUMBO's Brooklyn Bridge Park

“Public boozehounds rejoice — Brooklyn Bridge Park [of DUMBO] will have an outdoor wine bar and plaza if everything goes according to plan, development officials revealed on Monday night.

…Pier 6 — which, like Pier 1, is scheduled to open this spring — would sport two more cart-like concession stands and a restaurant that holds about 60 diners in a building with rooftop access, officials said.”

Dewey’s: A real sweets shop March 7, 2010

We love the look of DUMBO’s new candy shop.   The colorful sweets that create the colorful atmosphere of the shop are a testament to the owner’s past life working in visual merchandising for everybody from Victoria’s Secret to Ellen Tracy.

And, of course, we can’t help but be a little biased when we say this may beet even Jacques Torres as our new favorite indulgence, because Allison “Dewey” Oblonsky is a long time DUMBO resident.

Interviewed by the Brooklyn Daily Eagle Oblonsky said of her shop, ““I am looking to create a new space in DUMBO that will invite customers to stop in and buy their favorite childhood candies, while also creating a child-friendly and welcoming atmosphere. With today’s challenging economy, nothing makes people smile more than a stroll back through time with some of their favorite childhood treats.”

Hot on the heals of the Damages film crew, Showtime’s Nurse Jackie production team was caught down on the second floor setting up for a shoot right here in the building.  Keep an eye out for the Manhattan skyline and BK bridge- both dead giveaways for Plymouth Street shoot.

Where are you going? The Anchorage, we hope...

If you’re any kind of a traveler and you haven’t checked out airbnb.com yet, it’s about time you take a look.  Aside from being a wonderful resource for finding homestays, rentals, and b&b’s for any budget, this month The Anchorage made the front page!

The folks at Airbnb sent us over a professional photographer and, next thing we knew, there we were on the homepage.  So go to our “See” page to check out the photos, and go to airbnb.com to see the coverage.

New Artist in Town: TrustoCorp January 18, 2010

Walking the dog on Friday I did a quick double-take when I saw this sign:

Curb Your God Street Art

This is one of the things we love most in DUMBO– the street art.  While things have changed a lot here over the past five years- Wall Streeters discovering our waterfront neighborhood, pop-up shops and galleries– we’re lucky to still have a strong artist community.  While the warehouses on Plymouth Street and 68 Jay Street may remain some of the few strong holds for the original DUMBO artists, we see the effects of this community throughout our little neighborhood.  DUMBO is blessed with a constant stream of innovative art, not just in the galleries, but in the streets where we often see some of the most interesting pieces.

This piece is by TrustoCorp who have left their mark around the neighborhood… and we like it.
